Training for EQUALITY AND Human Rights Committee Members

Legal Capacity Training first gave this training in 2017.

The training was given to self – advocates as part of a project called Making Equality and Rights Real.

We are delighted to offer this training to other people who would like to learn about becoming a committee member.

Let’s take a look at what you will learn when you do this course.

You will think about human rights and why they are important to you.

You will learn about the work committee members do.

You will learn how people in your service can use the committee.

You will learn who the committee members should be.

You will learn the role of each committee member.

You will learn about confidentiality. This means that you will learn that it is important to keep the work of the committee private.

You will learn how to tell others about human rights in your service.

You will learn about the UN Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.

You will learn about the Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015.

You will learn about restrictive practices. This is something which limits a person’s rights and freedom.

You will learn how to ensure people's rights are enjoyed again if they are limited.

You will learn about the supports people use to sit on the committee.

This course is taught by easy read, group discussion and video.

Once you have done the training you will get a certificate.

You will also get a book and checklist which you can use when you sit on the committee.

The training will be given by Josephine Mcloughlin.

The training can be given at times that suit you.
